Day 1: Oil Pulling Expirement

Yes, Im jumping onto the Internet frenzy bandwagon. Not because Im all into the ultra healthy living epidemic that has swept the nation but because of my son. He's 7, and has a genetic disorder that I just realized my dentist didn't even tell me the name of! But anyway, this disorder creates saliva that doesn't contain the enzymes to break down they food or plaque debris in his mouth. So it forms a rock hard barrier along the backside of his front teeth that has to be removed by the dentist periodically. The dentist has assured me that Ineed not worry because children don't get cavities in their front teeth but my common sense won't allow me to believe that.

So, when I first read about this oil pulling stuff my first thought was,"this is the solution to Jahvar's disorder!" I know, the  painstaking task of trying to get an 8 year old boy to do anything for 20 minutes is going to be unbearable but I'm willing to do it for my son.

I dug deeper into my tease arch and was  disappointed that I couldn't find anything about kids oil pulling. I mean, I wasn't surprised I didn't find anything but I was disappointed. The more I read the more concerned I became about the newbie headaches. I don't want him to be in pain all day because I made him do something I'm sure he isn't going to want to do!

That's when I decided to do an oil pulling experiment which would gradually increase the amount of oil and the time spent swishing to see of I could eliminate or at least decrease this newbie headache side effect.

Today is Day 1 of this experiment! This morning With a lot of apprehension I started my oil pulling regiment. I'm starting out small because face it NO ONE wants to have a raging headache in a house of 6 kids on a summer's day! I started with 1 teaspoon and swished for 5 minutes. This is what I've learned about oil pulling today: coconut oil tastes really good and doesn't have the nasty oil feel I was expecting to make me gag, 1 tsp. may be enough for Jahvar but it definitely isn't enough for me, 5 minutes also isn't long enough to do much other then make my mouth feel fresh, and not spitting in the sink is going to be harder to remember then I thought!

This is the Coconut Oil I will be using from Costco

Tomorrow I plan on increasing my coconut oil to 2 tsp. and swishing for 10 minutes! As of right now, I have no headache, Ill let you know tomorrow if it stays that way!
